Euro 2016 is well under way and football fever is gripping the nation. Well, the fact that all of the home nations have now recorded a victory helps.
For the first time in 50 years England and Wales met in a competitive tournament. The teams faced each other in the Euro 2016 Group B clash in Lens, 16th June 2016.
Roy Hodgson’s side were held in their opening clash against Russia, while Wales went into the match full of confidence after their 2-1 win over Slovakia, knowing that a win will put them through to the last-16.
SWNS photographer Adam Gray was on the ground in Lille, France, and captured the emotions of England and Wales fans during the gripping encounter that saw Gareth Bale score a 30 yard belter, Jamie Vardy equalising with just his third touch of the ball, and Daniel Sturridge grabbing a late, late winner for England in the dying seconds of the game.
Over 20,000 football fans watched the game from inside the fan zone at Lille, France. During the emotional roller-coaster, the above photo shows the cheer as England score the first against Wales, whilst the image below shows the despair after Joe Hart palmed Gareth Bale’s 30 yard free kick into the goal.
