Sadly there were a handful of party-poopers. Cambridgeshire police reported that a brawl threatened to disrupt proceedings at the Trinity May Ball when eight police officers were called to reports of a major fight after some locals attempted to gate-crash the party.
Reports claim that the incident took place shortly before the 10pm fireworks, after a security guard removed a man for trespassing on college grounds. The man and seven of his friends then started attacking the security guard.
Cambridgeshire police said there were also reports of people in punts, who had gathered to watch the fireworks, throwing glass bottles into the crowd of students.
The eight officers then spent half an hour using torches to search the crowd and find the culprits, but no arrests were made. You can read more about this story here: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Police-called-Trinity-Ball-fight-breaks-riverbank/story-26707350-detail/story.html#ixzz3dJIKMnSm
