We are very proud to announce…
Congratulations to David Hedges! The Picture Editors’ Guild Award – Young Photographer of the Year Winner 2013!
David Hedges, one of our many talented SWNS snappers, won two awards this year. Not only did he get Young Photographer of the Year he was also handed the Videographer of the Year, sponsored by Nikon (a new category for 2013). David was given vouchers for a foreign trip to cover a news story of his choice. He chose to travel to Tennessee to picture an amazing family who have adopted eight children from the same family.
These awards are distinctive in that the panels of judges consist only of working picture editors from national and regional newspapers and international photo agencies. They assess the thousands of entries from professional photographers from throughout the media.
David was also the winner in the Young Videographer of the Year category. You can see David’s winning video here.
About the Awards
The highly-acclaimed UK Picture Editors Guild Awards competition launched in 2010.
These awards are distinctive in that panels of judges consisting only of working picture editors from national and regional newspapers and international photo agencies assess the thousands of entries from professional photographers from throughout the media. Enthusiastic non-professionals also get an opportunity to have their work judged in their own category by the same top editors.
In 2010 the first-ever competition awarded thousands of pounds in prize money to the winners of eight categories with the overall accolade of SABMiller Photographer of the Year going to the Guardian’s Martin Argles. Each year the Awards have evolved with a separate set of Awards introduced in 2012 specifically for the London Olympics and 2013 saw the introduction of a video category for the first time.
Fixation is proud to sponsor the Young Photographer of the Year category within this prestigious award and will continue to do so.
